The Walking Dead Death We Needed...but Didn't Want

I (im)patiently wait for my favorite show to return every season. If you are going to bash the show, please kindly remove yourself from this page, because I don't want your negativity here. Also, if you haven't watched the latest episode, you will want to check out a different blog of mine. The spoilers start in 3....2.....1...NOW!

Oh and if you want to read more of my "reviews" check it out here

Since the show revealed to us that Carl was infected I was SO eager to see what direction the show was going to go! I block out my Sunday evenings to mindlessly enjoy this show. This Sunday was no different. And this episode really got to me.

As the episode opened, I immediately knew that I HATED the song they chose for Carl's opening montage. It just didn't land with me. I would've liked something more somber I suppose, but I do understand that the entire episode would be sad and depressing, so a nice "upbeat" tune allowed for different dynamics during the episode. We get a glimpse into how Carl handled the bite before we see him deteriorating from the infection. It was interesting, but I really just wanted to see how they were going to handle the death of the character.

What to Do With Siddiq

I thought for sure that Rick would strangle Siddiq. I thought the imminent death of Carl would boil his rage and he would likely take it out on the person that is to "blame". But that is not what happened at all. When Rick and Michonne see Carl in the tunnels, they are of course devastated. As Carl explains how things unfolded, Rick gives a slight glance at Siddiq and in that moment I thought the rage would unfold. Instead, Rick turns his attention quickly back to Carl. I appreciated that. Rick was able to set things aside and focus on what really mattered in that moment, which, when you think about it, is exactly what Carl is envisioning for his father in the future.

The Future

Speaking of those visions, I was a bit shocked that these "visions" had been in Carl's head the whole time. I really was under the impression that these were "Flash Forwards". I would have never guessed that these were idealistic visions that Carl was hoping for. I love that the show went this direction. Carl has been the moral compass for a while and it fit perfectly with his arc. The only thing that made me so mad was seeing Negan in the visions. HE SHOULD NOT BE THERE! He's gotta go! He hurt my heart with killing our fave characters and I just can't get past that

Morgans Back and Forth

I personally think the writers give the Morgan character one of the best story arcs. His character is constantly back and forth on the morality spectrum. One day he is a killing machine and the next he channels his inner Gandhi. Morgan's struggle is one of the most gripping pieces of the Walking Dead story. I think it is an awesome testament to Jennie James acting as well. When Morgan was face to face with killing one of the saviors he told Carol that "He had to." We will see how his character progresses over the season.

The Hardest Goodbye Yet

While I'll admit, I miss Glen more than I'll ever miss Carl, hearing his goodbye to his sister got me choked up. What really got me was when he started talking about Lori. That's a moment in Walking Dead history that will go down as one of the most pivotal moments in Carl's life. My favorite part of that whole speech was when he handed over the hat; the most symbolic piece of the Grimes family history.

As others start to leave to flee to safety, Michonne and Rick stay back of course. Carl goes on to talk about the future he see's for his dad and how they have to remain good in all this chaos. The moral compass in Carl is trying to plead with his father one last time. It's coming down to the final moments and we are all wondering who will be the one to put him out of his misery. Even in his last moments, Carl decides he's going to take his own life in order to spare his father from any further pain. The ultimate gesture before he's gone.

While I know that it's going to be terrible for Rick to cope with this, I just feel like it will be easier for him than Lori was. With Carl, he got to say his goodbyes and he also got to hear his son's final wishes. If anything kills Rick, it will be trying to make Carl proud, but not Carl's death.

Ready For the Rest?

How did you guys feel about the episode? Favorite part? Least Favorite? Where do you think the season will go? What are you hoping for? Also, can anyone tell me why Maggie is still pregnant? lol

My teens are obsessed with the Walking Dead and I've heard them talking about it just yesterday. I think I'm the only one who doesn't watch it. I'm even afraid of commercials for scary movies. lol

@LisaWingerter ES SAME!! He has to go. I was so pissed. He has to pay for the things he's done. How would Maggie feel if they decide to spare him? He is an amazing actor and has added so much to the show, but he's def got to go for me to be satisfied!

I LOVE the Walking Dead, but my blood boiled over seeing Negan in that vision. That man needs to die bloody. I agree that some of his people can be salvaged, but Negan himself? He's got to go! I love JDM and the character of Negan is fun to watch, but will be ruined with a "redemption" plot.
