Coming home to a package sitting on your doorstep is like Christmas! I honestly think this is why people develop an addiction to Amazon...not good. Clayton and I are on a pretty tight budget at the moment so subscription boxes are a bit of a luxury that we do not currently partake in. I'm not one that will typically buy into "convenience" type items because it's just not worth it. And I find that subscription boxes typically don't contain enough value for the money. I tried the FabFitFun box and while I liked pretty much everything inside, I just couldn't justify the $50 a month price tag. I canceled the subscription after my first box. I didn't get excited enough about the products, and I ended up giving a third of them away to friends and family. I know that can happen with any subscription service because you likely won't love every product inside, but like I said, $50 for a box that I might like everything inside, is a no go!
One day I was browsing YouTube during a break at work and I discovered a whole new world of subscription boxes outside of FabFitFun! I like watching unboxing videos because I can see what I would be getting in a normal box from month to month so 1. I can see if the items are worth the money and 2. I can decide if I will like most of the items. I took to google and found that there are some pretty awesome and relatively cheap subscription boxes. I compiled a list that is quite long and contains some very...eccentric subscription boxes to say the least. Here's the list of boxes that I am REALLY considering trying out!
1. The Nocturnal Readers Box : $35/month

This box is for all those who love everything Horror. I grew up with parents that love scary movies and I was introduced to them at a young age. The first scary movie I remember watching was Halloween and ever since then, I have been obsessed with the genre. I am 100% at my best self in October, not only because it's prime spooky season, but because hockey and The Walking Dead come back! When I found out about the Nocturnal Readers box, I knew instantly that I needed to have it! Based on their website, this is what they claim will come in the box:
"We will always have AT LEAST TWO books. One new release, and one previously released title. You will always get a bookmark, and a custom art print that is only available in our box. They are not shiny glittery quotes...they are actual artworks that are commissioned per the theme each month. We will always have 7 or more items in the box per month. So far January-April have all had 8-11 items. This means that not only will you be getting more with our box, but you will be getting items that you can use and not pile in the closet for a time when you 'may' use them."
I am an avid reader and I often forget about the horror genre, so I really am considering picking up this box. I think that it is a reasonable price for the value of the box as well. If I do decide to try this box out, I will 100% be sure to let you all know about it.
2. Finders Seekers : $30/month

If you like solving mysteries or are enamored with thrillers, this sounds like the box for you! Finders Seekers is a box filled with items that lead you to something, sort of like a scavenger hunt. You don't have to actually leave your house or anything like that! Here is the official description from their site:
"Content varies, but each month there are abundant cryptic clues and puzzles to get your heart racing and brain ticking. You'll transport to a unique locale for each 'Find' where you'll uncover underground cultures and explore local traditions. You'll need to rely on good 'ole fashioned research and online tools to make your way to the 'Find."
Once you've completed the "find" in your box, you can go online and enter to win prizes! If you can't seem to figure it out, you can still enter the sweepstakes and find the answers online.
3. Hygge box: $28/month

Hygge is everywhere lately. I even have a friend that blogs about hygge and how she lives her life hygge! If you have time, you should definitely check it out :) If you aren't totatly sure what hygge is, don't worry, I was lost too! It's basically this danish idea of comfort and happiness. They hygge box describes it as "Hygge is about preserving happiness everyday. It is slowing down, being humble, expressing gratitude, feeling safe & connecting with loved ones." As the home level it is about creating a space that is inviting with warm lights and peacefullness. The hygge box is described as:
"Hygge Box is for anyone who wants to bring hygge into their home and life. Each curated box includes handpicked items from around the world to inspire and evoke hyggelig moments."
Each month you will receive a package containing items from around the world to inspire and evoke hyggelig moments. Each box will always include core elements of hygge - candle, hot drink and sweet indulgence. Depending on the level of the box you select, you may also receive seasonal handpicked items. The contents of each box is unique and vary month to month. Additional details are listed under each subscription box. To be honest, this is a box that sounds like heavan! It would also be a great little reminder to slow down and take some time for yourself!
4. Cloth and Paper : $38 /month

Cloth and Paper sells a variety of stationary items and let me tell you, they are ALL amazing. Is it like some weird peice of DNA that all girls get that just attracts them to buy any stationary that is remotely pretty. I have a real hard time walking down a notebook aisle in Target! The Cloth and Paper box is described as:
"Our typical Stationery Box comes with 5-8 items monthly with a variation of planner/stationery items and lifestyle goods. Examples of Items you may receive in your box include: • Pens • Notebooks • Sticky notes • Notepads • Stickers •Notebook/Journals • Journal Cards • Postcards • Notecards & Envelopes • LifeStyle items" My inner planner addict is screaming. I am all about organization and well, pretty paper and pens make me feel even better while planning!
5. Cryptid Crate : $39.99/month

This crate is perfect for those that like to indulge in conspiracy theories. I wouldn't say I believe all these crazy theories, but it's hilarious and intriguing to think about them for sure. The box contains:
"Paranormal wall art and home decor items handmade by local makers and artists from all over the country. Collectibles that will take your curiosity cabinets to the next level." I think this would be an awesome box around Halloween time! The box also features indie artists, which I am a huge fan of. Sign me up! You can check out Cryptid Crate here!
6. STICKII Club: $10/month

This is not the only the cheapest box on the list, but it's one that I think is super fun! I am currently loving my Passion Planner (hope to have a full review on the planner soon) and stickers are a great way to liven up the pages. I love being creative and stickers are simple but allow me to make my planner and scrapbook pages unique! StickII club comes with:
"5-6 sticker sheets, 1 sticker flakes bag, 1-2 stationary items, 1 STICKII storage."
You can get this subscription in 3 different options including Cute Pack, Retro Pack, Pop Pack. All of these have different feels and aesthetics. So you can choose which pack fits your personal style and you can even switch it up monthly if you choose! With this being the cheapest option, I definitely will be checking it out!
7. Penalty Box : $39.99

So who would I be if I didn't include a hockey subscription box. There aren't really a ton of boxes out there for hockey fans, but this box is perfect for Clayton. He doesn't buy a lot of hockey stuff, but I think he would really enjoy this! It is described as:
"Simply put, our team puts together a monthly box of hockey gear for you and ships it to your door. The products are always different each month, so it's always a surprise. Cancel at any time!"
I think it's fun that the ages that you choose between include a "beer leaguer" age group! This is one of the pricey boxes on this list, but when it comes to hockey items, this is a pretty cool deal. Thinking about this as a potential gift for Clayton! Check out the Penalty Box here!
8. Nick Box

As a child of the 90's, I pretty much grew up watching Rugrats, Rocket Power, and Hey Arnold. This box will allow me to relive all these classic shows and bathe in nostalgia. Parents: I think you'd like this box too! It is described as:
"The Nick box is a Subscription service that will bring some of your most memorable Nickelodeon experiences right to your door! Each box is filled with nostalgic goodies that you will treasure like vinyl toys, plush, apparel, household collectibles and much more! Each quarter we bring you a different theme loaded with exclusive items that can only be found in The Nick Box."
I couldn't find the price for this one, but I will definitely be looking into this one further! The Nick Box is really calling my name!
So that is a roundup of some of the subscription boxes that I am REALLY interested in. I am leaning toward the Nocturnal Readers box which will aide in my 18 in 18 reading goals, plus I love all things spooky! Are there any subscription boxes that you've tried? Which do you love and which should I ditch?
